Domaine Dujac Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru 2023
- TASTING NOTE: "The 2023 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru has slightly more black fruit on the nose, intermixed with sous-bois, tobacco and crushed mineral scents. It has superb delineation but is restrained at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. This is quite an elegant and poised Clos Saint-Denis. Its silky tannins, judiciously spiced toward the finish, seem to stumble, whereas the Clos de la Roche just "glides. Drink: 2028 - 2050." 93-95 Points - Neal Martin, Vinous
- ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Domaine Dujac was founded in 1967 by Jacques Seysses when he purchased a small estate in Morey-St-Denis, Domaine Graillet, and renamed it after himself. Jacques farther was a wealthy biscuit baron and had instilled a love of fine wine into Jacques who had already apprenticed with Gerard Potel at Domaine de la Pousse d'Or. In 1971 Jacques met his future wife Rosalind, an American girl who had come to work the vintage and ended up staying for life. Their sons Jeremy and Alec, and Jeremy's wife Diana now run the winery, with Diana in charge of the winemaking. The original 5.5ha Morey-St Denis estate now covers over 15ha and includes holdings in Puligny Montrachet. Vineyard practices have been certified organic since 2012, with biodynamic inputs being used since 2008. Dujac's wines are noted for their exceptional fragrance, structure and longevity. With holdings in seven Grand Crus, Duajc is today one of Burgundy's leading Domaines. In 2000 they set up a new negotiant line, Dujac Fils & Père, in order to create more accessible wines with an emphasis on fruit. They maintain the same quality standards for these wines as for those of the Estate and the wine-making process is conducted with the same care. These wines are generally ready to drink a bit earlier than the wines from the Domaine.
