ChaLou Riesling 2025

  • TASTING NOTE: "20g/L. Single-site estate vineyard. Lotus flowers, lime skin and pineapple guava. There is a quartz and pumice-stone edge and a quivering tension between fruit nectar and vibrating acidity. The wine evaporates the remaining oily sweetness and what is left is a lacy grip of skin texture, some moreish white almond creaminess and white apple notes. This is utterly delectable; one of the finest expressions of off-dry riesling in the country. Outstanding value; if there is any left, scoop it up." 96 Points - Shanteh Wale, Halliday Wine Companion
  • ABOUT THE WINE: 20g/L residual sugar. Picked in the cool of the morning before whole bunch pressing. Gentle extraction to ensure low phenolics. Fermented at cooler temperatures <14C with wild yeast. Ferment was arrested with some residual sugar to obtain off-dry style balancing sugar with taut acidity. No fining = Vegan Friendly.
  • ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Steve Mobbs and Nadja Wallington both grew up on family vineyards. Nadja in Canowindra (40 minutes down the hill from Orange) and Steve in Wauchope, not far from Port Macquarie.  They first met when studying winemaking at Charles Sturt University together in 2008.  Following their studies they each went their separate ways working and travelling in wine both domestically and abroad. In 2014 they each came to Orange for winemaking opportunities and from then on they have been inseparable. Steve started in Orange as a part of the winemaking team at Cumulus Wines before taking the reins of Nadja’s family winery “Wallington Wines” in 2017, overseeing the viticulture, winemaking and wine sales. Nadja worked as winemaker at renowned local brand “Philip Shaw Wines” where she had the opportunity to work with fruit from across Orange and learn the versatility of the region. In 2020 they purchased a vineyard in Orange and here they have developed their own brand ChaLou Wines. They are passionate about what they do, making expressive delicious wine and are dedicated to working sustainably with the land.
