Antonelli Montefalco Sagrantino 2019
- TASTING NOTE: "The 2019 Montefalco Sagrantino is highly expressive, with sweet mint and hints of cedar complementing the red-berry-dominated bouquet. This is remarkably juicy and vibrant, with masses of tart red and blue fruits augmented by touches of violet pastille. It finishes with mouth-coating tannins and a licorice tinge that lingers." 94 Points - Eric Guido, Vinous
- ABOUT THE WINE: The traditional wine of Montefalco, made exclusively from Sagrantino grapes, vines grown for centuries on the slopes of the Umbrian hills, characterised by great structure and longevity. Vinified using gravity feed. Fermentation in contact with the skins for 25 to 40 days. The wine clarifies spontaneously with no need for filtration. Aged in large oak barrels for at least 18 months. Then the wine settles in glass lined cement vats for some months before being bottled.
-
ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Among the longest-running wineries of the appellation, Antonelli San Marco has been owned by the same family since 1883. 190 hectares in in the center of the area DOCG Montefalco. The clay soils rich in limestone, with different geological origins, form austere hills surrounded by forests, with an ideal microclimate for vines and olive trees. Thirteen hectares are dedicated to olive groves, while about 60 hectares are devoted to vineyards, mainly oriented towards south and west. We grow only native varieties: Grechetto and Trebbiano Spoletino for whites, Sangiovese and Sagrantino for reds. At the heart of the winery, just below the historical villa, is the cellar, completely buried and designed for vinification by gravity. A structure with low environmental impact which allows us to avoid the use of pumps, ensuring greater control of the first delicate phases of fermentation and maceration, in addition to saving energy resources. We only vinify grapes of our own production, from organic farming, in order to offer a product that we have control on at every stage, with the guarantee of organic certification of both grapes and wines.
